Healthy Eats Can Be An Adventure -- Have fun!!!
The last time we went to Chicago, we ventured into Greektown and ate at a to die for place called Greek Islands. Nick, our server, was amazing, and the food was heavenly. One of the appetizers we got is called saganaki. Breaded greek cheese (Kasseri), pan fried, then set ablaze with brandy and doused with lemon to extinguish the flame. Great presentation, great flavor … so much we felt we just had to try it as home.
The local Mediterranean mart was out of Kasseri, but recommended Haloomi (which we found out doesn't melt, so if you're into the melting, don't use this one) which has an amazing flavor. We used soy flour for breading, and E & J brandy VS for the flambe effect.
This is what we do for date nights and fun … explore new foods, set cheese on fire, and enjoy the fact that we could eat as much as we wanted and it was only three carbs, due to the soy breading.
Nom, nom, nom.
Best regards,
RKW
